Abstract
Canım Hoca Mehmed Paşa, 1706’dan itibaren Osmanlı kroniklerinde ve Osmanlı arşiv belgelerinde adı sıkça ge-çen kaptanlardan birisidir. Sultan III. Ahmed ve Sultan I. Mahmud dönemlerinde aralıklarla üç kez kaptan-ı deryalık görevine getirilmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti’nin Karlofça Antlaşması’nın olumsuz etkilerinden kurtulma çabası içerisinde bulunduğu bir dönemde, Akdeniz’de Venediklilere, Karadeniz’de ise Ruslara karşı yürütülen mücadeleler içerisinde yer almıştır. Denizcilik alanında önemli hizmetleri olmasına rağmen Osmanlı tarihinde hak ettiği yeri alamamıştır. Özellikle cüretkâr tavırları ve devlet adamları ile yaşadığı anlaşmazlıklar azledilmesine yol açmıştır. Bu çalışmada dönemin kronikleri ve arşiv belgeleri ışığında Canım Hoca Mehmed Paşa’nın denizcilik alanındaki faaliyetleri ve dönemin olayları aydınlatılmaya çalışılmıştır.

Canım Hoca Mehmed Pasha is one of the sailors and captains who have been mentioned in the Ottoman chronicles and archival documents since 1706. He was appointed to the commandership of the Ottoman naval services three times at intervals in the periods of III. Ahmed and I. Mahmud. Canım Hoca Mehmed Pasha as a commander of the Ottoman naval forces participated to the Ottoman - Venetian struggle in the Mediterranean Sea and the Ottoman - Russian struggle in the Black Sea in a time the Ottoman State made an effort to overcome negative effects of the Karlowitz Treaty. It seems that he could not receive the attention that he deserves in the Ottoman history even though he had critical services in Ottoman navy. His bold actions and disagreements with other statesmen played a very important role in his removal. In this study, it is aimed to shed light on Canım Hoca’s activities in the navy and on the events of the time based on the archives and chronicles of his time.
