Üç bölümden oluşan yazının ilk bölümünde KİM tanıtılarak bu kuram bağlamındaki tartışmaların gruplararası algı literatüründeki yeri ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde, KİM’in temelini oluşturan yetkinlik ve sevecenlik boyutları incelenerek kuramın önemli sınırlılıkları ortaya konulmuştur. Son bölümde ise, belirlenen bu sınırlılıkları aşabilmek için sosyal bağlamsal bir yaklaşımla gruplararasındaki kar-şılıklı ilişkilerin altı çizilmiştir. Böylece, gruplararası yarışma türünün, gruplararası statü farkının meşruluğunun ve statü farkından kaynaklanan sosyal gerçekliğin sınırlayıcılığının kalıpyargı içeriklerini belirleyen bağlamsal etkenler olabileceği önerilmiştir. Söz konusu etkenler temelinde beş farklı sosyal bağlam tanımlanıp, bu bağlamlarda yetkinlik ve sevecenlik değerlendirmelerinin nasıl şekilleneceği tartışılmıştır. Son olarak, bağlama duyarlı bakış açısının sınırlılıkları ve gelecek çalışmalar için çıktıları ele alınmıştır. Başlık (Yabancı Dil) A Contextual Approach to Stereotype Content Model Stereotype Contents in Context Anahtar Kelimeler (Yabancı Dil) Stereotypes ; competence ; warmth ; intergroup context ; status ; competition ; and legitimacy Özet (Yabancı Dil) The present review aims to explore the strengths and weaknesses of the Stereotype Content Model (SCM ; Fiske et al., 1999 ; 2002) by identifying the theory’s contribution to the literature of intergroup perceptions. It also aims to provide a context sensitive perspective to overcome the limits of SCM. The study consists of three main sections. In the first section, the contributions of SCM’s suggestions to the literature of stereotype contents, their societal roots and their emotional consequences are discussed. In the second section, a special focus is devoted to the fundamental dimensions hypothesis of SCM, on which core tenets of the theory is built. By this way, several difficulties of the theory are identified. In the final section, a context sensitive perspective is suggested to overcome these difficulties. In this perspective dyadic relations among groups are underlined and three contextual factors suggested shaping evaluations on fundamental dimensions : the kinds of the intergroup competition, legitimacy of status differences and constraints of social reality defined by these status differences. Combining these contextual factors, five different contexts are proposed in relation to group members’ evaluations on the fundamental dimensions. Finally, the limitations of the context sensitive perspective are discussed and suggestions for future studies are presented |
