Second Order Analysis of Multi Storey Steel Structures That Are Formed by Concentric Steel Braces

Özet (Yabancı Dil)
Most of the existing building codes allow linear elastic analysis in order to calculate the actual structural behavior ; however, many structures display nonlinear behavior under the effects of lateral load application. Therefore, computing methods that are based on nonlinear theory instead of linear elastic theory must be applied. In this study, multi-storey steel structures that are modeled with different forms of concentric steel braces are designed by using linear elastic methods first. Then these structures are investigated by taking into account of geometrically nonlinear behavior of the structures. Three dimensional steel frames forming the basis of this study are reduced to two dimensional frames using fictive rod elements and then the second-order elastic analyses are performed on the reduced models. Story drifts, inter-story drifts, overall drift index and internal forces of selected column and beam elements are given in graphs and tables at the result of the study comparatively. As a result, second order effects on the steel structures that are modeled with different forms of concentric steel braces are found to be smaller than the ones modeled with moment resisting frame systems.
